Frankfurt/Main (ots) - KfW IPEX-Bank, IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG and Helaba Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen, as Mandated Lead Arrangers, are financing, jointly and at equal shares, the construction of the 750-megawatt hard coal-fired power plant Duisburg-Walsum 10. The respective agreements were signed in Frankfurt today. With a total loan volume of EUR 615 million, the transaction is the largest project financing in the German power sector up to now.
The modern, highly efficient hard coal-fired power plant Duisburg-Walsum 10 is a joint project of German STEAG AG, Essen, and Austrian EVN AG, Maria Enzersdorf. The total project volume is over EUR 800 million. The power plant is scheduled to go into operation in 2010. For STEAG the project is the first step towards rebuilding its German power plant park, and for EVN it is the entry into own, significant power generation capacities in Germany.
The syndication of the loan is scheduled to be concluded by the end of the year. Helaba acts as agent of the financing and IKB as security trustee. KfW IPEX-Bank was documentation bank. In addition, Helaba acted as insurance bank, IKB as modelling bank and KfW IPEX-Bank as technical bank.
The financing of the Duisburg-Walsum 10 power plant is the first bank financing provided for a highly efficient hard coal-fired power plant in Germany. Having successfully closed the transaction, the three banks have made a decisive contribution to the modernisation of the German power plant park and emphasised their leading role in the financing of investments in the German energy sector.
