Hamburg-based Conergy AG today announced that it contractually
secured more than 80% of the silicon and silicon-based components
required to produce its own solar modules with a peak capacity of
around 50 megawatts three months prior to the start of production at
its new Frankfurt/Oder plant.

In order to produce wafers, cells and modules, more than 50 different
production materials and components were ordered from diverse
suppliers including silicon, iron-free solar glass, special gases for
the production process, slurry and silver paste as well as connection
boxes and aluminium frames.

With these suppliers, Conergy could secure the necessary future
supplies for 2008 and beyond in order to expand its own production.
In view of the silicon industry’s substantial increase in capacity,
Conergy expects more favourable procurement conditions by 2008 which
could be beneficial for the company when new contracts are signed in
the second half of 2007.

Since February, machinery has been continually delivered to the new
site, assembled and tested for the start-up of the fully integrated
production of solar wafers, cells and modules in summer 2007 in
Frankfurt/Oder. While the exterior work to the building has almost
been completed, the internal fitting out is also nearing completion
and the entire infrastructure is being prepared for the start of
production.

All in all, Conergy is on course to kick-off manufacturing at its
solar plant in summer 2007 and to ramp up production to produce its
first solar modules with a peak rating of up to 50 megawatts by the
end of the year. Conergy will reach full production capacity of 250
megawatts in 2008, and the solar wafers, cells and modules which it
produces will be supplied to its current distribution centres in 25
countries.
