Frankfurt (ots) -
KfW IPEX-Bank finances the construction of an industrial thermal power plant to generate combined heat and power on the premises of the tinplate producer Rasselstein GmbH in Andernach/Rhineland Palatinate. The different loans and credit lines granted for the project sum up to approx. EUR 80 million. The corresponding financing agreements were signed in Frankfurt today.
Dr Peter Klaus, Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors of KfW IPEX-Bank and also member of the Board of Managing Directors of KfW Bankengruppe said that with this transaction KfW IPEX-Bank was again confirming its leading role in the financing of investments in the German energy and environment sector. Klaus emphasized: "Efficient and environmentally friendly state-of-the-art power plants make an active contribution to protecting the environment and the climate."
Besides natural gas, the power plant can be fired with refuse-derived fuels (RDF) made from processed waste materials. By using RDF in power plants it is possible to save primary energy sources and, thus, to make a contribution to reducing emissions that damage the climate. The modern and highly efficient power plant is equipped with a 60 MW boiler fired with secondary fuels, a 60 MW gas-fired reserve boiler and two gas-fired peak load boilers with 15 MW thermal capacity each. The commissioning of the plant is scheduled for early 2008.
With this power station the Freiburg-based energy producer GWE Gesellschaft für wirtschaftliche Energieversorgung mbH (GWE) will in future cover the energy supply of Rasselstein GmbH, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp. The process steam obtained from the power plant will make Rasselstein GmbH, an energy intensive enterprise, less dependent on the German energy market. The generated electricity is sold to industrial customers.
