Pfaeffikon SZ, 31 August 2006 --- For the first six months ending 30
June 2006 shaPE’s share price gained 3.2% to CHF 224.00 while the Net
Asset Value (NAV) per share decreased by 2.7% to CHF 228.21. The
reduced NAV per share relates to a foreign currency revaluation loss
of CHF 3.4 million deriving from a significant decline in the USD
versus the CHF. In parallel, realized and unrealized gains from
shaPE’s private equity portfolio amounted to CHF 1.4 million. Total
cash distributions received from limited partnerships amounted to CHF
20.4 million while total cash contributions made by shaPE to limited
partnerships were CHF 16.1 million. This decreased shaPE’s investment
ratio (investments in relation to total NAV) by three percentage
points to 69% for the six months ending 30 June 2006.

During the first half of 2006 shaPE’s commitment ratio (total
commitments in relation to total NAV) rose by five percentage points
to 109% which reflects four new commitments to unlisted limited
partnerships made in the first quarter 2006. In total, shaPE
committed CHF 22.5 million to Nordic Capital VI, Lightyear Fund II,
The Fourth Cinven Fund and to Bain Capital Fund IX. These are
follow-on commitments to successor funds of fund managers where shaPE
is actually invested in the predecessor fund, demonstrating that
shaPE’s portfolio is in a mature stage. We are confident that the
previously made and still unrealized investments of the portfolio
will enable shaPE to continue to generate solid results. Looking
forward, shaPE intends to primarily invest in successor funds of
current fund managers with the best track records while
simultaneously focus on areas of which we believe offer a favourable
environment for private equity investments.
