The crisis in the financial markets in recent months has increasing
effects on the real economy. Total operating income of the Precious
Woods Group in the third quarter increased as a result of
acquisitions by USD 24,9 million to USD 91.8 million which was below
expectations. Profit from operating activities decreased from USD 6.9
million to 2.6 USD million.

The consolidated group result for the end of September showed a
profit of USD 1.1 million. The unfavourable development with a net
loss of USD 2.7 million in the third quarter is caused mainly by
unresolved technical problems in the veneer factory in Gabon, in
addition to negative currency effects and a considerable drop of
sales of Precious Woods Europe. The group management, together with
the subsidiaries, has already initiated a comprehensive package of
measures. The positive effects, however, will not be noted before the
first quarter 2009.

Sales in Brazil in the wood and energy segments as well as the total
revenue in Central America were according to expectations. Sales of
emission rights showed a positive development. In mid-October 2008
Precious Woods Gabon received FSC certification (Forest Stewardship
Council) for its forestry activities. This means that the entire
forest area of Precious Woods totalling over 1.1 million ha is now
FSC certified.
