Following the most successful year in feratel´s history in 2007/2008,
with consolidated sales totaling EUR 29.1 million euros, EBIT TEUR
1,425.4 and EBT TEUR 1,189.7, the first quarter of the current
business year has been in line with expectations. "In the first three
months of the business year, consolidated sales increased by 12
percent. We are on course to repeat the excellent results achieved in
2007/2008 as a platform from which we can then move forward again,"
says CEO Dr. Markus Schröcksnadel in his commentary on the figures
for the first quarter. Consolidated sales were up from TEUR 4,371.0
in the first quarter of the previous year to TEUR 4,896.0 in the
first quarter of 2008/2009. Consolidated EBITDA came to minus TEUR
268.8 compared with minus TEUR 116.3. EBIT was more or less unchanged
at minus TEUR 1,111.7 after minus TEUR 1,046.7, as was EBT at minus
TEUR 1,148.0 compared with minus TEUR 1,090.7. The figures for the
first quarter at feratel are strongly impacted by seasonal factors,
which generate negative results for the period every year.

Seasonal factors reinforced by Sitour

The fields of business at feratel media technologies AG and thus the
company´s key ratios are subject to pronounced seasonal influences,
an effect that is additionally reinforced by the fact that Sitour´s
business activities have a similar seasonal focus. Sales in the
Telecommunications Division, for example, are concentrated in the
second half of the financial year, while overheads are distributed
equally over the full twelve-month period. Similarly, on a number of
major markets the period from May to October, i.e. the first two
quarters of the business year, accounts for a mere five percent of
income from advertising and also of related expenditures, while the
third and fourth quarters generate the remaining 95 percent.

Highlights in the period under report

Given the diversity of our product portfolio and the increased use of
synergies between Sitour and feratel, business activities were again
buoyant in the first quarter of 2008/2009. In the Telecommunications
Division, for example, further additions were made to the Europe-wide
network of live panoramic camera sites in Belgium (Alden Biesen,
Hasselt, Lommel), Switzerland (Grächen) and Austria. Numerous tourism
destinations at home and abroad invested in the Deskline information
and reservation system, including Courmayeur Tourism Association in
Italy, Lenk-Simmental Tourismus AG and Davos-Klosters in Switzerland
, the famous Czech ski area in Klinovec, and the three Slovak
destinations Liptovské Revúce, Slovenský Raj and Spišská Nová Ves.
feratel also did well once again with its outdoor information
systems, with fourteen Infoterminals delivered to Italy, Greece and
Austria. In the period under report, the company´s mobile destination
portal feratelMobile made its debut on the Swiss market, and the
famous resort of Zermatt is now a first reference customer in
Switzerland for this advanced mobile destination portal, which gives
potential visitors access to the latest information on their mobiles
including available accommodation, weather, events and live images.
The company´s product portfolio was also further expanded in the
Media Division. With the new Sitour City Wall, customers can now
employ a new and dynamic advertising medium for busy locations in the
Tyrol, with more to follow in the course of the current business
year. In August 2008 feratel also launched another new product in the
form of WebTV.
